Prepositions with the Instrumental Case
The instrumental case is always used with these prepositions:
| ме́жду | between, among |
| ря́дом с | next to |
| над | above |
| пе́ред | in front of |
The instrumental case is used with these two prepositions when they describe the location where something is (that is, when they answer the question где?)
| за | behind |
| под | under |
These spatial prepositions are often used together with verbs like:
| находи́ться | to be located |
| стоя́ть | to stand, to be in a vertical position |
| висе́ть | to hang, to be in a suspended position |
О ком? о чём? The Preposition O with Personal Pronouns
When Elena Nikolaevna meets Amanda in person, she says:
- Мы о вас сто́лько слы́шали.
- We have heard so much about you.
As you know the preposition о goes with the prepositional case. The personal pronouns in the prepositional case are given below. Note how the preposition о acquires another syllable and becomes обо before the first person form мне.
